Three Simple Reasons Why Not to Use Twitter

Even though usage of Twitter is absolutely through the roof, it is not uncommon for me to be approached by people who aren’t using the platform and mocking it. I’ve got a softball game tonight and after I get a hit I can guarantee one guy in the dugout asking if they should Tweet that for me.

Instead of explaining why to use it, which has been covered ad nauseum, here are three reasons to stay to stay disengaged -

1 – You don’t want to learn a new web technology that may or may not be here a year from now.

Let’s face it, time is precious. Football season just started. It’s probably better to spend two hours each week for the next 15 weeks reading about which players you should start on your fake team. Twitter may or may not be here one year from now.  Besides you don’t want to learn computer programming. What does @, RT, and # mean?

2 – You don’t really care about the content; you think it’s all mundane.

You are right. On Twitter, the posts are mostly mundane. There aren’t people talking about your brand, don’t worry. And if they are, it’s all positive. And if by chance any of its negative, don’t worry, none of it will show up in any searches. No one will see it.

3 – You don’t want to meet anyone new.

You have a ton of friends, family, co-workers, and clients. It probably makes sense to just consider this network your network and move on. After all, you’ll meet people out in real life; you don’t want to meet someone on the Internet.
